CRITICS: Who is Anna?

Feb 25, 2022 | Series Reviews

Shonda Rhimes doesn't need too much introduction as the series she has created, written and produced speak for themselves. Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, The Bridgertons ... They all have that irrepressible popularity that makes the quality of the production indifferent. The important thing is that it is entertaining, engaging, raucous and surprising. Who is Anna? is much more restrained and intelligent, and takes advantage of the presence of an extraordinary actress like Julia Garner, winner of two Emmy awards for the series Ozark. She plays a professional con artist character who not only generates empathy for her wit and charisma, but also for a dramatic development that is disturbing and even touching at times.
The length of the episodes and the duration of the season seems excessive. You can notice the usual enthusiasm of its creator for those histrionic and artificial dialogues that fascinate her, and a certain narrative chaos that does not contribute to the intensity of the story and character development. But considering the low hours suffered by Netflix in recent months with too much quantity and too little personality and quality in its releases, Who is Anna? is one of the highlights of the platform in recent months. Another thing is that the real story would probably have gained a lot with a more original and measured treatment.
